Great item
By trial and error I have found the best ‘dosing time’ for me is around 45 minutes before heading off to my crib. For reasons unknown to me I am finding the 3mg strength to be more effective in aiding me to sleep than the 5mg and 10mg versions I was recently taking.

Can’t sleep at my old age
As you get older, sleep is both more important and problematic. When it can be a problem but 3mg of Melatonin taken at the time when you want to feel sleepy it resets your body clock. Melatonin is not a sleeping tablet, it is a supplement that the body uses to set your body clock.

“Efficacious”
I have used melatonin 3mg tablets since the 1980s, when I travelled all over the world on business, to offset the problem of Jet Lag. I am now retired but my wife and I, who are both in our 80s, we still travel when we get a chance but now for pleasure but now we use it to get ready for a good long night’s sleep.

Melatonin increases the speed of falling asleep and adds to the quality of sleep. It also offers strong protection against free radicals and supports healthy DNA.

Melatonin is a hormone derived from the amino acid tryptophan. It’s primarily synthesized by your pineal gland in your brain and released mostly at night to make falling asleep easier.

In addition to healthy sleep support, melatonin offers protection against free radicals and has been shown to support immune health, healthy brain function and more.

Melatonin and sleep

A good night’s sleep is crucial for overall health and well-being. But many people experience difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep. Healthy sleep patterns are governed by your body’s circadian rhythms, and melatonin helps keep your circadian rhythms in tune.

But melatonin release declines with age, and can be affected by jet lag, shift work and more. Melatonin promotes healthy sleep/wake patterns and encourages the onset, duration and quality of sleep.

Previous studies suggest that melatonin may be an effective antiviral agent amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Benefits of Melatonin

Why take Melatonin?

Melatonin is the hormone responsible for regulating the body’s biological clock. It is produced by the pineal gland, which is located in the brain. Melatonin helps to regulate sleep. During daylight, the pineal gland in the brain produces the neurotransmitter serotonin, but at night, the pineal gland stops producing serotonin and instead makes melatonin. This melatonin release helps trigger sleep.

More benefits of taking Melatonin

Anti-Ageing: Animal research indicates that melatonin may be of value in extending life–elderly mice administered the supplement lived 25% longer than their cohorts in one study–although much more investigation is needed before firm conclusions can be made about its value for humans in this regard. Melatonin’s antioxidant properties may help to stave off illnesses commonly related to ageing, such as heart disease and cataracts. The hormone may boost immune-system function as well, which can weaken with age.

Mood Support: number of people who feel quite normal and energetic in summer become depressed and sluggish in winter, when sunlight is weaker and less abundant. Low melatonin levels may also be present in individuals who react in this way. Taking a melatonin supplement in the afternoon or evening may help improve mood and combat negative emotions associated with winter.

• Ocular Pressure: Taken in small amounts, Melatonin has been shown to lower pressure in the eyes. Since studies have only been done on healthy eyes, it is uncertain whether melatonin would be an effective treatment for glaucoma.
